The Flow of the Anointing

Reverend Samuel Mutendi was a man heavily clothed in the power of the Holy Spirit. When he laid his hands on the afflicted, blind eyes opened, diseases fled, and evil spirits trembled. Samuel knew exactly what he was doing. He understood that he would not live forever on this earth, so he carefully groomed his son, Nehemiah, to understand the weight and sacredness of this ministry.

Samuel taught Nehemiah that the laying of hands is not an empty ritual. He taught him that a leader’s hands must be clean, his heart must be pure, and his faith must be unshakeable. By allowing Nehemiah to witness these miracles up close and eventually giving him the responsibility to pray for others, the wise father poured the spiritual DNA of the church directly into his son. He laid a solid foundation, ensuring the divine fire would not die out when his own earthly journey ended.

When the heavy task of leadership fell upon Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi in 1976, he did not seek out new philosophies or try to change the spiritual methods of his father. He deeply appreciated the foundation laid by Samuel. He knew that the exact same hand that blessed him was the hand that needed to bless Africa.

With absolute faithfulness and God’s sweeping grace, Bishop Nehemiah took on the mantle and continued the laying of hands without stopping. For 50 glorious years, through hot afternoons and cold mornings, the Bishop has stood on his feet, stretching his hands over millions of maZion. Because he remained loyal to the lesson taught by his father, the healing power did not diminish—it multiplied. Today, the staggering number of deliverances, breakthroughs, and blessings experienced by ordinary congregants is a direct result of his untiring obedience to his father’s practice.

This continuous flow of spiritual power through the laying of hands perfectly mirrors the greatest handovers found in the Holy Bible:

When Moses reached the end of his assignment in the wilderness, God did not leave Israel without a shepherd. God told Moses to take Joshua, a man in whom was the Spirit, and lay his hands upon him in the sight of all the people.

The Bible tells us the beautiful result: “Now Joshua the son of Nun was full of the spirit of wisdom, for Moses had laid his hands upon him; so the children of Israel heeded him.” (Deuteronomy 34:9). Joshua did not need to find a new source of power; he walked in the exact same authority that Moses had transferred to him.

In the same way, the Apostle Paul reminded his spiritual son, Timothy, to keep the fire burning, saying: “Stir up the gift of God which is in you through the laying on of my hands.” (2 Timothy 1:6). Reverend Samuel Mutendi was our Moses, who laid his holy hands upon his son. Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi has been our Joshua, who took that transferred wisdom and used it to lead millions safely into the Promised Land.

"The clothes of the preacher may change with the times, but the power in the hands of God's anointed remains the same forever."

Today, when an ordinary believer steps forward in the prayer line and feels the hands of Bishop Nehemiah rest upon their head, they are not just receiving a prayer from a man. They are touching an unbroken chain of divine grace that stretches back to the very foundation of the Zion Christian Church.

The staggering growth of our church is proof that our leader did not lose the path. Because Bishop Nehemiah has maintained the murairo and the practices of his father with absolute consistency, our families stand on a solid, unshakeable footing. The same hand that healed the sick in the days of Samuel is the very same hand blessing our children today, guiding us safely into a glorious future.
