Reverend Samuel Mutendi was a deeply spiritual leader who knew exactly what he was doing. He understood a profound heavenly truth: you cannot successfully lead the House of God if you do not first know how to lead your own household. He knew that the home is the very first church, and the father is the very first pastor.

Samuel did not leave his family behind to go and preach the gospel. Instead, he made his family the center of his ministry. He walked closely with the young Nehemiah, deliberately grooming him within the warmth of the family structure. He taught him that ministry is not a solo performance; it is a shared family responsibility. By assigning his children duties in the daily upkeep of the ministry, the community, and the farm, Samuel laid a solid foundation. He taught Nehemiah that a true leader protects his family, honors his household, and serves God alongside those he loves.

When the mantle of leadership fell upon Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi in 1976, he completely understood and appreciated his father’s lesson. He knew that as the church grew into a massive organization, the greatest danger would be the scattering of the family. He took on the task with absolute faithfulness, determined to keep his household rooted in the work of the Lord.

With exceptional grace, Bishop Nehemiah has spent the last 50 years maintaining a unified home while leading millions. He did not separate his family from the flock. Instead, his wife, his children, and his extended household have stood shoulder-to-shoulder with him in the trenches of ministry—serving the saints, managing logistics, leading prayers, and driving the development of the church. Because he honored the foundation laid by Samuel, God granted him the grace to see his own household become pillars of the church, ensuring that the legacy of faith remains secure, disciplined, and unbroken.

A NATION OF GODLY FAMILIES

This beautiful continuity of family service perfectly mirrors the grandest blueprints found in the Holy Bible. We see this exact pattern in the life of Joshua and the legacy of Abraham:

When Joshua stood before the entire nation of Israel after years of warfare and movement, he did not just make a declaration for himself. He understood that his leadership was rooted in his home. He stood up and boldly proclaimed to the millions watching: “But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.” (Joshua 24:15). Joshua led Israel effectively because his own household was completely united in doing God's work.

Similarly, God chose Abraham because He knew that Abraham would not keep the faith to himself. God said: “For I have chosen him, so that he will direct his children and his household after him to keep the way of the Lord by doing what is right and just.” (Genesis 18:19). The covenant of Abraham became a nation because it was passed faithfully from father to son, from Abraham to Isaac, and from Isaac to Jacob.

Reverend Samuel Mutendi was our Abraham—the one who received the covenant and directed his household after him. Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi has been our Joshua—the faithful leader who has stood before the world for 50 golden years and demonstrated that his entire house is dedicated to serving the Lord.

"A church that saves the world but loses its own children has built on sinking sand. A church that stands together as a family will stand forever."

Today, the staggering strength and unity of our church is a direct tribute to Bishop Nehemiah’s faithful administration of his family. He took the lessons of his father, accepted the responsibility with a servant's heart, and allowed God's grace to multiply that unity across the entire denomination.

Because our leader kept his family together doing God’s work, he has given every ordinary congregant a beautiful pattern to follow. Today, our families stand on a solid, unshakeable footing. We are not just a collection of individuals; we are a massive network of godly families, bound together by one faith, walking hand-in-hand into a glorious future.
