Reverend Samuel Mutendi was a man of deep spiritual foresight. He knew exactly what he was doing. He understood that a church that gets stuck in the past will eventually fade away. Samuel was incredibly progressive for his time. Whenever a new tool became available to advance God's work—whether it was the first open-top trucks, the early printing presses for church literature, or the establishment of the very first community schools—he grabbed it and used it for the gospel.

Samuel groomed his son, Nehemiah, to have this exact same forward-thinking mindset. He taught him that the world would change, technology would advance, and education would rise. The wise father laid a solid foundation, showing his son that while we must never compromise on the Holy Spirit or the murairo (doctrine), we must never be afraid of using modern tools to fish for souls. He taught Nehemiah that the church must always speak the language of the generation it is trying to save.

When Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi assumed the heavy task of leadership in 1976, he fully appreciated his father's progressive foundation. He took that lesson and magnified it with extraordinary grace. For 50 glorious years, the Bishop has consistently modernized the church to keep it relevant, visible, and accessible to the entire world.

Instead of keeping the church isolated, Bishop Nehemiah threw open the doors to modern development. A LIVE, EVER-GROWING CHURCH

This beautiful practice of constant modernization to protect and expand the harvest perfectly mirrors the famous teaching of our Lord Jesus Christ in the Holy Gospels:

Jesus gave his disciples a powerful parable about growth, saying: “Neither do people pour new wine into old wineskins. If they do, the skins will burst; the wine will run out and the wineskins will be ruined. No, they pour new wine into new wineskins, and both are preserved.” (Matthew 9:17).

The "wine" is the Holy Spirit, the power of God, and the pure doctrine—it never changes. But the "wineskin" is the method, the technology, and the vehicle used to hold that wine. Jesus was teaching that as the harvest grows, the vehicle must be constantly renewed and modernized so that the power of God can be carried safely to new territories without being lost.

Similarly, we see the Apostle Paul modernizing his approach to reach different cultures, declaring: “I have become all things to all people so that by all possible means I might save some.” (1 Corinthians 9:22). Reverend Samuel Mutendi gave us the pure, priceless wine of the gospel.
